Backup and Disaster Recovery
Backup and Disaster Recovery
The platform's Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) feature provides automated, multi-region data protection with point-in-time recovery and continuously validated disaster recovery procedures. It is designed to ensure business continuity for all tenants across HR, financial, and operational workflows.
Key Capabilities
Automated Backups
Backups are taken automatically on a platform-managed schedule. No manual configuration is required to get started. Backup jobs run in the background and do not impact platform performance or availability.
- Frequency: Automated on a platform-defined schedule.
- Coverage: All tenant data across HR, payroll, finance, and operational modules.
- Retention: Backups are retained according to your plan's data retention policy.
Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR)
Point-in-time recovery allows you to restore your tenant data to any specific moment within the retention window — not just the most recent backup. This is especially valuable for recovering from accidental data changes, user errors, or application-level corruption.
Use cases:
- Recovering records deleted by mistake.
- Rolling back an import or bulk update that produced incorrect data.
- Restoring a known-good state before a problematic configuration change.
Cross-Region Backup Replication
All backups are automatically replicated to at least one additional geographic region. Cross-region replication ensures that a regional cloud provider failure does not result in data loss or an inability to recover.
- Replication is fully managed; no additional setup is required.
- Recovery can be initiated from the replicated region if the primary region is unavailable.
Disaster Recovery Planning
The platform supports structured disaster recovery planning at the tenant level. Administrators can:
- Define recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) appropriate to their organisation.
- Associate DR plans with specific workloads and data domains.
- Document and store DR runbooks within the platform for quick access during an incident.
Automated Recovery Testing
To ensure that disaster recovery procedures are effective and up to date, the platform automatically tests recovery procedures on a recurring schedule. Recovery tests are non-destructive and run in isolated environments.
- Automated scheduling: Tests run without manual triggering.
- Validation reports: Pass/fail results and detailed logs are available in the platform dashboard after each test run.
- Alerting: Administrators are notified if a recovery test fails, enabling proactive remediation before a real incident occurs.
Getting Started
Backup and Disaster Recovery is enabled automatically for all tenants. No initial configuration is required to begin taking backups.
To review backup status, manage DR plans, or access recovery test reports, navigate to:
Admin Console → Infrastructure → Backup & Recovery
Recovery Procedure Overview
- Identify the recovery target — Determine the point in time or backup snapshot you wish to restore from.
- Initiate recovery — Navigate to Backup & Recovery → Restore in the Admin Console and select the appropriate snapshot or timestamp.
- Select scope — Choose whether to restore the full tenant dataset or specific modules (e.g., Payroll only, HR records only).
- Confirm and execute — Review the restore summary and confirm. The platform will execute the recovery and notify you upon completion.
- Validate — Use the built-in validation tools to confirm data integrity post-restore.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far back can I restore using point-in-time recovery? The available recovery window depends on your plan's data retention policy. Refer to your plan details in the Admin Console for the exact retention period.
Will a restore operation affect other tenants? No. All restore operations are scoped strictly to your tenant and are fully isolated.
How do I know if my automated recovery test failed? Administrators receive an in-platform notification and, if configured, an email alert when a scheduled recovery test does not pass. Detailed logs are available in the Backup & Recovery dashboard.
Is cross-region replication enabled by default? Yes. Cross-region replication is active automatically for all tenants and requires no manual setup.
