Faster Transaction Categorisation: Edit Inline, One Row at a Time
Faster Transaction Categorisation: Edit Inline, One Row at a Time
Release: v1.0.55 · UI/UX Improvement
If you've ever worked through a long list of imported transactions — assigning each one an HMRC category before your quarterly Making Tax Digital submission — you'll know how quickly the process adds up. Before this release, changing the category on a single transaction meant:
- Ticking the checkbox on the row
- Opening the bulk action bar
- Selecting a category
- Clicking Apply
For a ledger with 200 uncategorised transactions, that's 800 clicks just to get through the list.
What's Changed
Click the Badge, Change the Category
Transaction rows now have an interactive HMRC Category badge. Hover over it or click it and a dropdown appears with all available HMRC categories. Pick one and you're done — the row updates instantly. No checkboxes, no bulk bar, no Apply button.
The change is committed to the server in the background using an optimistic update, so the UI stays responsive and you can move straight to the next row.
Annotate Transactions Without Leaving the Ledger
Each row now also carries an inline notes trigger. Click it to add or edit a short annotation on that transaction — useful for recording which property a repair belongs to, flagging something for your accountant, or noting a reimbursement that needs splitting.
The Bulk Tools Are Still There
Inline editing doesn't replace bulk recategorise — it sits alongside it. When you need to assign the same category to fifty transactions at once, bulk selection is still the right tool. When you need to handle each transaction on its own terms, inline editing is now the fast path.
Where to Find It
Dashboard → Transactions → Transaction Ledger
No configuration required. The inline controls appear on every row automatically from v1.0.55 onwards.
