Bring Your Todoist Tasks Into Focus Engine

Bring Your Todoist Tasks Into Focus Engine

Release: v0.1.13

Focus Engine now supports Todoist as a task source. If you use Todoist to manage personal to-dos, operational work, or anything outside your primary code toolchain, you can now connect it via OAuth and have those tasks flow directly into your daily briefing and day planner.

What's included

OAuth connection

Todoist connects through a standard OAuth flow — no API keys to copy, no manual token management. Go to Settings → Integrations → Todoist and authorise access. Focus Engine requests read access to your tasks and projects.

Tasks surfaced in the daily briefing

Once connected, Focus Engine fetches two categories of Todoist tasks:

  • Due today — any task with a due date of today, regardless of which project it lives in
  • High priority — tasks flagged as Priority 1 or Priority 2 in Todoist (Todoist's red and orange flags)

These tasks appear in the Due today and Smart focus recommendations sections of your morning briefing alongside tasks from GitHub, Notion, Asana, and other connected tools.

Day planner integration

Todoist tasks flow into the day planner scheduling engine and are treated the same as tasks from any other source. They are prioritised, assigned duration estimates, and eligible for calendar block creation.

Who this is for

This integration is particularly useful if you:

  • Use Todoist for personal and ops-level tasks (expenses, admin, HR tasks, errands) while using GitHub or Jira for engineering work
  • Want a single morning briefing that covers both your code layer and your operational task layer without switching apps
  • Prefer Todoist's lightweight capture model for quick tasks that don't belong in a project management tool

Graceful degradation

Todoist is an optional integration. If you don't connect it — or if the connection lapses — Focus Engine continues to work normally using your other connected sources. No briefing sections are broken or hidden by its absence.

How to connect

  1. Open Settings → Integrations
  2. Click Connect next to Todoist
  3. Authorise Focus Engine in the Todoist OAuth prompt
  4. Return to Focus Engine — your next briefing will include Todoist tasks

To disconnect, return to Settings → Integrations and click Disconnect next to Todoist. Focus Engine will stop fetching Todoist data immediately.
