v1.0.9 — User Autonomy Level & Preferences

v1.0.9 — User Autonomy Level & Preferences

Sidekick v1.0.9 gives you explicit control over how independently your AI agent operates. You can now choose between three autonomy modes globally and fine-tune behaviour on a per-integration basis.

Autonomy Modes

Three modes are available to match your comfort level and workflow:

Ask First

The agent identifies an action it could take and surfaces it to you as a proposal. No action is executed until you confirm.

  • Best for: Users who want full oversight, or when onboarding new integrations.
  • The agent queues pending actions in the dashboard for your review.

Act Then Report

The agent executes actions immediately, then sends you a summary notification of what it did.

  • Best for: Users who trust the agent but want an audit trail.
  • Notifications appear in the Activity Feed and, optionally, via your connected messaging app.

Fully Autonomous

The agent acts silently. No confirmation prompt, no notification — the work just gets done.

  • Best for: Routine, low-risk tasks where interruptions add no value.
  • All actions are still logged and visible in the Activity Feed at any time.

Per-Integration Overrides

Your global autonomy mode applies to all integrations by default, but you can override it for any individual connected account.

The most important override is read-only mode:

  • When enabled on an integration, Sidekick can read and surface data from that account but will never write, modify, or delete anything.
  • The global autonomy level is ignored for that integration — read-only takes precedence.
  • Recommended for sensitive accounts such as production databases, financial platforms, or any service where an automated write could have irreversible consequences.

How to Configure

Set the global autonomy level

  1. Open Settings from the top-right menu.
  2. Navigate to Agent Preferences → Autonomy Level.
  3. Select your preferred mode: Ask First, Act Then Report, or Fully Autonomous.
  4. Save. The setting takes effect immediately across all integrations that do not have an override.

Set a per-integration override

  1. Open the Connected Accounts dashboard from the left sidebar.
  2. Click on the integration you want to configure.
  3. Under Integration Settings, toggle Read-Only Mode or choose a specific autonomy override for that account.
  4. Save the integration settings.

Notes

  • Per-integration overrides always take precedence over the global autonomy level.
  • All agent actions — regardless of autonomy mode — are logged in the Activity Feed with timestamps and full action details.
  • You can change your autonomy level at any time; there is no cooldown or migration required.
