Build Better Courses Faster with Drag-and-Drop Reordering

Release v1.0.28 · Published 2025-07-22

Structuring a course should feel as natural as sketching an outline on paper. With v1.0.28, we're shipping a drag-and-drop curriculum editor that gives instructors direct, visual control over how their course is organised — no forms, no index fields, no page reloads.

The Problem with Static Outlines

Previously, changing the order of sections or lessons meant navigating away from the overview, editing individual records, or relying on clunky up/down controls that gave no sense of the full picture. For courses with many sections and dozens of lessons, restructuring content was tedious enough to discourage iteration.

Good course design is an iterative process. The tooling should support that.

What's Shipping in v1.0.28

Drag-and-drop reordering

Every section and lesson in the curriculum editor now has a drag handle. Pick up an item, move it where you want it, and drop it. Sections carry their nested lessons along for the ride. Lessons can be repositioned within a section or moved to a different section entirely.

See your whole course at once

The editor renders the full course outline in a single scrollable view — every section expanded, every lesson visible. You can assess the flow of your curriculum at a glance and spot structural gaps before learners do.

Add content without leaving the page

New sections and lessons can be added inline, directly from the outline view. The editor stays in context so you can build out a new section and immediately position it where it belongs.

Instant feedback with optimistic updates

There's no loading state after a drag. The interface updates the moment you drop an item. The save happens in the background, and if anything goes wrong the editor rolls back gracefully and lets you know. The result is an authoring experience that feels immediate — because it is.

Who Benefits

  • Instructors building new courses can rough out a structure quickly and reorganise as their thinking evolves.
  • Instructors maintaining existing courses can add new sections or shuffle content without disrupting learners mid-course (ordering changes take effect as configured).
  • Admins managing content for an organisation get a clear overview of every course's structure without having to open individual lessons.

Get Started

Open any course in the platform, head to the Curriculum tab, and start dragging. No configuration required — the new editor is the default experience from v1.0.28 onwards.

See the Drag-and-Drop Course Builder feature guide for full usage details.
