What's New: At-a-Glance Tax-Year Status on the Quarterly Summaries Page
Version: v1.0.101
Area: Quarterly Summaries Dashboard
The Problem
Under Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD ITSA), landlords are required to submit four quarterly updates to HMRC per tax year. Keeping track of which quarters have been submitted, which are overdue, and what the year's financials look like should be simple — but the previous Quarterly Summaries page made it harder than it needed to be.
Opening the page dropped you straight into four expanded quarter cards. To answer a basic question like "Am I on track for this tax year?" you had to:
- Visually scan all four cards individually
- Mentally add up income and expense figures
- Cross-check submission statuses card by card
- Locate the tax-year selector — which sat at the end of a flex-wrap row and was easy to miss
This release fixes that.
What's New
Sticky Summary Banner
A new sticky banner now sits at the very top of the Quarterly Summaries page. Every time you open the page — or switch tax years — you immediately see:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Total Income | Combined rental income across all four quarters for the selected tax year |
| Total Expenses | Combined allowable expenses across the year |
| Net Profit | Income minus expenses — the figure that flows into your HMRC submission |
| Quarters Submitted | e.g. 2 of 4 submitted, 1 accepted |
| Outstanding Deadlines | Overdue quarters or upcoming submission windows flagged clearly |
The banner is sticky, meaning it remains visible even as you scroll down to review the individual quarter cards.
Tab-Style Tax-Year Selector
The tax-year selector has been redesigned as a clear tab-style control at the top of the page. It replaces the previous version that was tucked at the tail end of a flex-wrap row. Switching between tax years now updates the summary banner and all four quarter cards instantly.
The Detail Cards
The four quarter cards remain fully expanded below the banner. Nothing has been removed — the banner adds orientation on top of the existing detail, so you can still drill into individual quarter figures, deadlines, and submission history as before.
Why This Matters for MTD Compliance
HMRC's MTD ITSA quarterly deadlines are fixed and penalties apply for late submissions. A landlord with four properties generating income across multiple months cannot afford to miss a deadline because the dashboard didn't make the status obvious. The summary banner ensures the most important compliance signals — how many quarters are done, is anything overdue, what are the year's numbers — are always the first thing you see.
