Negotiation Inbox: Settlement Proposal History
Settlement Proposal History in the Negotiation Inbox
When a deposit negotiation involves multiple counter-proposals, the Proposal History timeline gives all parties a clear, structured view of how the negotiation has progressed — without scrolling through the full message thread.
Where to find it
Open any negotiation thread in the Negotiation Inbox (Dashboard → Negotiation). The Proposal History panel appears as a collapsible section at the top of the ThreadViewer, above the chronological message feed.
What the timeline shows
Each row in the timeline represents one settlement proposal and includes:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Date | When the proposal was submitted |
| Party | Who made the proposal — Agent, Landlord, or Tenant |
| Tenant return | The proposed amount to be returned to the tenant |
| Deduction total | The proposed total amount to be deducted |
| Delta | Change in proposed tenant return vs. the previous proposal (e.g. +£150, -£200) |
Deltas are colour-coded to indicate the direction of movement, making it easy to see whether proposals are converging or diverging over time.
Current Gap badge
Above the timeline, a Current Gap badge displays the real-time difference between:
- The latest proposal submitted by the agent or landlord
- The latest counter-proposal submitted by the tenant
This gives both parties an immediate picture of how far apart they currently are, without needing to manually compare figures from different messages.
Collapsing the panel
The Proposal History section is collapsible. Click the section header to hide it and keep focus on the message thread. Your preference is not persisted between sessions — the panel defaults to expanded when you open a thread.
When does the panel appear?
The Proposal History panel is only shown when a thread contains at least one settlement proposal message. Threads with no proposals are unaffected.
Relationship to the message thread
Proposal messages continue to appear in their original chronological position within the message feed, with their existing settlement badge. The Proposal History panel is an additional summary layer — it does not replace or reorder the message thread.
