Team Challenges & Community Competitions

Team Challenges & Community Competitions

Team Challenges let gym owners and coaches run structured, time-boxed competitions that span an entire week. Members compete individually or as part of a team, with progress tracked on a live leaderboard visible to everyone in the gym.

Overview

Challenges are designed to generate friendly rivalry and boost member engagement. Each challenge runs for one week and is built around a single measurable metric so standings are clear and fair.

Challenge Types

Three challenge types are available:

ChallengeWhat is measured
Most Metres RowedCumulative rowing distance (metres) logged during the challenge week
Most Sessions AttendedTotal number of gym sessions checked in to during the challenge week
Most PRs LoggedNumber of personal records recorded during the challenge week

Team Formation

When a challenge is created, gym owners or coaches choose how teams are assembled:

Auto-formed teams

The platform automatically distributes members into evenly sized teams. This is the fastest option and ensures balanced competition without requiring member action before the challenge starts.

Self-selected teams

Members browse available teams and join one of their choosing, or create a new team, before the challenge begins. This works well for gyms that already have established training groups or social circles.

Live Leaderboard

Once a challenge is active, a live leaderboard displays:

  • Team standings — ranked by cumulative challenge metric across all team members
  • Individual contributions — each member's personal total within the week
  • Real-time updates — standings refresh as new workouts, sessions, and PRs are logged

The leaderboard is visible to all gym members for the duration of the challenge week, encouraging check-ins and progress tracking.

Setting Up a Challenge

  1. Navigate to Community → Challenges in the gym owner or coach dashboard.
  2. Click Create Challenge.
  3. Select a challenge type (Metres Rowed, Sessions Attended, or PRs Logged).
  4. Choose a team formation method (auto-formed or self-selected).
  5. Confirm the challenge start date — challenges run for exactly one week from the start date.
  6. Publish the challenge. Members will be notified and can view the leaderboard immediately.

Notes

  • Only one challenge can be active at a time per gym.
  • Challenge data (metres rowed, sessions, PRs) is sourced automatically from existing workout and session logs — members do not need to enter data separately.
  • Historical challenge results are archived after the week ends and remain viewable in the Past Challenges section.
