HMRC Quarterly Deadline Reminders

HMRC Quarterly Deadline Reminders

The platform automatically monitors your HMRC Making Tax Digital (MTD) quarterly submission deadlines and sends you timely reminders so you never miss a filing window.

Overview

Once your organisation has at least one active property and a connected HMRC credential, the deadline reminder workflow runs automatically every day. You do not need to configure anything — reminders are enabled by default for all qualifying organisations.

Prerequisites

To receive deadline reminders your organisation must have:

  1. At least one active property registered in the platform
  2. At least one connected HMRC credential — see Connecting Your HMRC Account for setup instructions

Organisations that do not meet both conditions are skipped during each daily sweep.

Reminder Schedule

The workflow runs every day at 08:00 UTC. For each upcoming quarterly deadline that falls within the next 30 days, you will receive reminders at three trigger points:

TriggerNotice PeriodPurpose
30-day warning30 days before deadlineEarly awareness; time to gather and review transactions
7-day warning7 days before deadlinePrompt to compute and finalise your quarterly summary
1-day warning1 day before deadlineFinal prompt to submit to HMRC before the deadline

Each reminder is delivered as an in-app notification to the relevant users within the organisation.

What the Reminder Contains

The content of each reminder depends on the current status of your quarterlySummaries record for that quarter:

Summary does not exist yet, or is in draft

You will receive a reminder with an action prompt to:

  • Compute your quarterly income and expenses summary
  • Review the figures before submission

This applies whether you have not yet started the quarter's summary or have saved it as a draft.

Summary is pending

You will receive a reminder prompting you to submit the summary to HMRC. The figures have already been computed — the submission step is all that remains.

Summary is submitted

No reminder is sent. The platform recognises the period as complete and skips it.

HMRC Quarterly Periods

HMRC MTD for Income Tax requires four quarterly submissions per tax year. The platform automatically calculates the HMRC-mandated deadline for each period and applies the reminder logic accordingly. No manual date entry is required.

Notifications

Reminders appear in your Notifications panel within the platform. Ensure your user account has notifications enabled to receive alerts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get a reminder if I have already submitted? No. Once a quarterly summary has a status of submitted, the platform skips that period entirely.

What if I have multiple properties across different quarters? The workflow evaluates deadlines at the organisation level. If your organisation has qualifying properties and credentials, all approaching quarterly deadlines within the 30-day window will be checked.

Can I disable reminders? Reminders are tied to your organisation's HMRC credentials and active properties. To stop receiving reminders, remove or disconnect your HMRC credential — though this will also prevent submissions.

What time are reminders sent? The workflow runs at 08:00 UTC daily. Notifications should appear shortly after that time.
