Completing Your MTD Submission: The Submit to HMRC Button
Completing Your MTD Submission: The Submit to HMRC Button
Released in v1.0.20
With the v1.0.20 update, landlords can now submit quarterly tax data directly to HMRC from the Quarterly Summary dashboard — completing the full Making Tax Digital (MTD) workflow without leaving the screen.
Overview
The Quarterly Summary dashboard displays computed income and expense breakdowns for each quarter. A Submit to HMRC button now appears on each quarter card, giving you a clear, single action to finalise and send your quarterly return.
How It Works
1. Navigate to the Quarterly Summary
Go to Dashboard → Quarterly Summary. Each quarter card shows your income/expense breakdown alongside a status badge (draft, submitted, etc.).
2. Review Your Quarter
Before submitting, confirm the figures shown on the card are correct. The Submit to HMRC button only appears for quarters with a status of draft.
3. Submit to HMRC
Click Submit to HMRC on the relevant quarter card. A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to confirm the submission. This is your last opportunity to review before the data is sent.
4. Confirmation and Status Update
Once confirmed, the submission is triggered and the quarter's status badge updates to submitted.
HMRC Connection Requirement
The Submit to HMRC button requires an active HMRC connection.
| HMRC Connection State | Button Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Connected | Button is active and clickable |
| Disconnected | Button is shown but disabled, with a tooltip explaining that HMRC must be connected |
To connect your HMRC account, navigate to Settings → HMRC Connection and complete the authorisation flow using your Government Gateway credentials and National Insurance Number.

Troubleshooting
The Submit to HMRC button is not visible.
The button only renders when the quarter's status is draft. If the status is already submitted or another terminal state, the button will not appear.
The button is greyed out / disabled. Your HMRC account is not connected. Go to Settings → HMRC Connection to authorise the integration.
The submission failed. Check that your HMRC credentials are valid and that your National Insurance Number is correctly recorded in your profile. If the issue persists, review the HMRC API status or contact support.
