Usage-Based Billing for AI Assessments — v0.1.37
Usage-Based Billing for AI Assessments
Available from: v0.1.37
Starting in v0.1.37, AI deduction assessments are tracked as a metered usage metric. Organisations included in subscription plans that carry an AI assessment allowance will have their consumption monitored in real time, with overages automatically reported to Stripe for billing.
How It Works
1. Usage Event Logging
Every time an AI deduction assessment is run, the platform logs a usage event against the originating organisation. Each event records:
- Organisation ID — which tenant triggered the assessment
- Timestamp — when the assessment was completed
- Assessment type — the category of deduction being assessed
This creates a complete, auditable record of AI consumption per organisation, per billing period.
2. Plan Thresholds
Each subscription tier includes a defined number of AI assessments per billing period at no additional cost. The threshold for your plan is visible in the Billing section of your account settings.
- Assessments below the threshold are covered by your plan.
- Assessments above the threshold generate metered usage records that are billed at the overage rate for your tier.
3. Current Month Consumption in the Billing UI
The billing settings page now displays a current month AI assessment usage widget showing:
- Total assessments run in the current billing period
- Your plan's included threshold
- Number of assessments that have entered the metered (overage) zone
This gives landlords, agents, and platform administrators full visibility into their AI usage before the invoice is issued.
4. Stripe Metered Billing
For any assessments that exceed the plan threshold, the platform automatically submits a Stripe usage record. Stripe then:
- Accumulates overage usage throughout the billing period
- Applies the metered rate at invoice generation time
- Includes the itemised AI assessment overage on the organisation's next invoice
No manual reporting or end-of-period reconciliation is required.
Key Behaviours
| Behaviour | Detail |
|---|---|
| Usage scope | Per organisation, per calendar billing period |
| Threshold enforcement | Soft — overages are billed, not blocked |
| Stripe sync | Real-time, triggered on assessment completion |
| Billing period | Aligned to the organisation's Stripe subscription cycle |
| Historical back-fill | Not applied — usage counting begins from v0.1.37 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Will assessments be blocked if we exceed our plan threshold? No. Assessments are never blocked. Once your included threshold is reached, further assessments generate metered overage charges that appear on your next invoice.
Where can I see how many assessments we have used this month? Navigate to Settings → Billing. The current month's AI assessment usage is displayed alongside your plan threshold.
When are overage charges invoiced? Stripe collects metered usage records throughout the billing period and invoices at the end of each cycle, consistent with your existing subscription billing date.
Are assessments from before v0.1.37 counted? No. Usage tracking begins from the release of v0.1.37. Prior assessments are not retroactively counted or billed.
