Team Challenges & Community Leaderboard
Team Challenges & Community Leaderboard
Introduced in v1.0.6, Team Challenges and the Community Leaderboard give gyms a built-in engagement layer that turns individual training data into shared, competitive motivation.
Overview
Weekly challenges let gym owners and coaches define a community-wide goal for a rolling seven-day window. All members participate automatically, and their progress is surfaced on a real-time leaderboard visible to everyone in the gym.
Challenge Types
Three challenge types are available at launch:
| Challenge | What Is Tracked |
|---|---|
| Most Metres Rowed | Cumulative rowing distance (metres) logged during the challenge week |
| Most Sessions Attended | Total number of sessions completed and recorded |
| Most PRs Logged | Number of personal records entered during the challenge period |
Multiple challenges can run concurrently, so a gym can, for example, run a rowing challenge and a PR challenge in the same week.
Real-Time Leaderboard
The Community Leaderboard updates live as members log sessions and records throughout the week. Key behaviour:
- Live updates — standings reflect the most recent data without requiring a page refresh
- Full community visibility — all gym members can see the current rankings
- Weekly reset — the leaderboard resets at the start of each new challenge week, giving every member a fresh start
How It Works
- Gym owner or coach creates a challenge by selecting a challenge type and confirming the weekly window.
- Members train as normal — session attendance, rowing metres, and PR logs are automatically counted toward active challenges.
- The leaderboard updates in real time as data is recorded, keeping all members informed of their standing.
- At week's end the challenge closes and standings are finalised before the next cycle begins.
Impact on Session Compliance
Team Challenges are designed to address one of the most common drop-off patterns in fitness communities: isolated training with no social accountability. By making individual effort visible to peers in a friendly, competitive context, challenges create an additional reason to attend sessions and log activity — particularly mid-week when attendance typically dips.
Roles & Permissions
| Role | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Gym Owner | Create, edit, and delete challenges; view all leaderboard data |
| Coach | Create and manage challenges; view leaderboard |
| Member | View leaderboard; contribute to challenges automatically through normal activity logging |
Notes
- Rowing metres are sourced from session logs — manual entries and connected device data both count.
- PRs must be explicitly logged to the platform to be counted; implicit performance improvements are not tracked automatically.
- Challenge periods follow a fixed weekly cadence (Monday–Sunday) and cannot currently be set to arbitrary date ranges.
