Expandable Transaction Descriptions in the Ledger View

Expandable Transaction Descriptions in the Ledger View

Available from: v1.0.301

Overview

Transaction descriptions imported from bank feeds or property management software are sometimes lengthy. Previously, long descriptions were cut off in the transaction ledger view, making it difficult to identify or audit specific transactions at a glance.

From v1.0.301, the transaction ledger includes an inline "more" link next to any truncated description. Clicking it expands the full description directly within the ledger row — no pop-ups, no page navigation required.

How It Works

  1. Open the Transaction Ledger from your dashboard.
  2. Locate any transaction where the description appears truncated (indicated by an ellipsis and a more link).
  3. Click more to expand the full description inline.
  4. The row expands to display the complete text.
  5. Click less (or an equivalent collapse control) to return to the truncated view.

Why This Matters

Accurate transaction descriptions are critical for:

  • HMRC categorisation — confirming that income or expense entries are assigned to the correct MTD ITSA category before submission.
  • Audit trails — maintaining a full, readable record of every transaction for quarterly and annual reviews.
  • Reconciliation — matching imported bank or property management transactions to their source records.

Notes

  • The truncation threshold and expansion behaviour apply to all transaction types: income, expenses, and transfers.
  • No data is changed when expanding a description; this is a display-only enhancement.
  • Expanded/collapsed state resets when you navigate away from the ledger view.
