Onboarding Flow with Progressive Setup

Starting with v1.0.63, new Sidekick accounts are guided through a structured onboarding experience designed to get you from sign-up to your first autonomous agent action in minutes — without overwhelming you with options upfront.

How It Works

The onboarding flow uses progressive disclosure: you begin with one focused task, complete it, then unlock the next layer. Each step builds on the previous one so you always have context for what you're doing and why.

Step 1 — Connect Your First Integration

Choose a service you already use — email, calendar, a chat platform, or a dev tool — and authorize Sidekick to connect to it. This gives the agent its first window into your digital life.

  • OAuth-based authorization for supported services
  • No API keys or manual configuration required
  • Only one integration is needed to proceed

Step 2 — Install Your First Skill

With an integration connected, you'll be prompted to install a skill that works with it. Skills define what the agent does with access to a service — for example, triaging an inbox, summarizing pull requests, or detecting calendar conflicts.

  • Browse recommended skills matched to your connected integration
  • One-click install from the ClawHub skill directory
  • Skills are fully compatible with OpenClaw SKILL.md format

Step 3 — Watch the Agent Take Action

The final onboarding step is observational: the agent runs your newly installed skill against live data from your connected integration and shows you the result. You'll see a real output — a triage decision, a summary, a scheduled reply — before you've written a single configuration line.

  • Live execution against your actual data
  • Action is shown in the agent activity feed
  • You can approve, modify, or undo the action before it becomes permanent

After Onboarding

Once all three milestones are completed, the full Sidekick dashboard is unlocked. You can:

  • Connect additional integrations
  • Install more skills from ClawHub
  • Configure automation rules and schedules
  • Review the agent's action history

The onboarding checklist is dismissed automatically and will not reappear.

Notes

  • The guided flow is only shown to new accounts on first login.
  • Existing users are not affected.
  • At any point during onboarding you can skip ahead to the full dashboard using the "Skip setup" link.
