Prev/Next Lesson Navigation Controls
Prev/Next Lesson Navigation Controls
The lesson player includes Previous and Next buttons that allow learners to move through a course in curriculum order without returning to the course outline.
How it works
When a learner is viewing a lesson, two navigation controls appear in the lesson player:
- Previous — navigates to the immediately preceding lesson in the curriculum.
- Next — marks the current lesson as complete, then navigates to the immediately following lesson in the curriculum.
Navigation is cross-section: the buttons traverse every lesson in every section of the course in the correct curriculum sequence. For example:
- Clicking Next on the last lesson of Section 1 moves the learner to the first lesson of Section 2.
- Clicking Previous on the first lesson of Section 2 moves the learner back to the last lesson of Section 1.
The Previous button is hidden (or disabled) when the learner is on the very first lesson of the course. The Next button is hidden (or disabled) when the learner is on the very last lesson of the course.
Lesson completion on Next
When a learner clicks Next, the platform automatically records the current lesson as complete before loading the next one. This means learners can progress through an entire course sequentially and have their completion state updated without any additional action.
Note: Clicking Previous does not alter the completion state of any lesson.
Curriculum order
The order of lessons follows the curriculum structure defined in the course builder — sections are ordered by their position, and lessons within each section are ordered by their position. This is the same order displayed in the course outline sidebar.
