The Buddy System automatically pairs new members with experienced athletes for their first eight weeks. The goal is to reduce early drop-off, accelerate onboarding, and build community connections grounded in shared context — not random assignment.
How It Works
Matching Algorithm
When a new member joins, the platform runs a matching process that considers three signals:

| Class time | Overlapping or compatible scheduled class attendance windows |
| Programme track | Whether both members are following the same or a closely related training track |
| Goals | Alignment between stated training objectives (e.g. strength, conditioning, weight loss) |
A pairing is made with the experienced athlete who scores highest across these factors. Ties are broken by availability and existing buddy load.
Pairing Duration
Each pairing is active for eight weeks from the new member's join date. After this window, the relationship can continue organically, but the formal accountability structure and paired notifications conclude.
Accountability Features
Shared Goals
Once a pairing is confirmed, both members can view each other's active goals. This shared visibility creates a mutual commitment layer — each person can see what the other is working toward, which encourages consistency and follow-through.
Paired Nudge Notifications
Both members receive coordinated nudge notifications throughout the pairing period. Notifications are paired — meaning if one member logs a session or hits a milestone, the other is nudged to engage. This keeps accountability bidirectional rather than placing the entire burden on the experienced athlete.
For Gym Owners & Coaches
- The Buddy System runs automatically — no manual pairing is required.
- Pairings are visible in the member management dashboard so coaches can monitor active buddy relationships.
- If a pairing is not working, coaches can manually dissolve and re-trigger the matching process for the new member.
For Members
- New members are notified of their buddy pairing immediately after matching completes.
- Experienced athletes receive an opt-in prompt before being enrolled as a buddy — participation is not mandatory.
- Both members can message each other directly through the existing in-platform messaging thread created for the pairing.
