Platform Update: Immutable Audit Logging for Admin Actions

Platform Update: Immutable Audit Logging for Admin Actions

Version 1.0.81 | Release Highlight

Starting with v1.0.81, every significant administrative action taken inside the platform is now captured in an immutable audit log — a tamper-proof, chronological record designed for compliance reporting, security reviews, and operational troubleshooting.

What Gets Logged

Four categories of admin actions are now recorded automatically:

1. SSO Configuration Changes Any time an admin creates, updates, or removes an identity provider connection — or adjusts SSO attribute mappings — the change is recorded along with who made it and when.

2. Enrollment Modifications Manual changes to learner enrollments, including additions, removals, and status updates, now leave a clear paper trail. If a learner's access is unexpectedly revoked or granted, you'll know exactly which admin made the change.

3. Course Publishing Events Every publish and unpublish action on a course is logged. This makes it straightforward to reconstruct the availability history of any course in your catalog.

4. Import Job Starts When a Teachable content import job is initiated, the event is recorded — including the initiating admin — giving you a reliable history of all content migration activity.

Why Immutability Matters

Audit logs are only valuable if they can be trusted. Our log entries are write-once: once an action is recorded, it cannot be edited or deleted by anyone through the platform — not even super-admins. This design ensures that the log is a reliable, unbiased record of what actually happened, making it suitable for submission to external auditors or regulators.

Built for Compliance From Day One

Many of our customers operate in regulated industries or under internal governance frameworks that require verified records of privileged activity. The audit log is designed to satisfy these requirements with zero additional configuration:

  • Satisfies evidence requirements for SOC 2 logical access controls
  • Supports ISO 27001 event logging obligations
  • Provides the accountability trail required by most enterprise security policies

Audit logging is on by default for all tenants as of this release.

Better Troubleshooting, Too

Beyond compliance, the audit log is a practical day-to-day tool. When something unexpected happens — a course goes offline, a learner loses access, an import job kicks off at an unexpected time — you can quickly trace back through the log to understand the sequence of events and who was responsible.
