Clearer Quarterly Submissions: Readiness Checklist, Submit Button & Deadline Countdown

Clearer Quarterly Submissions: Readiness Checklist, Submit Button & Deadline Countdown

Version: 1.0.56

Submitting a quarterly return to HMRC under Making Tax Digital is the most important action a landlord takes in this application. In v1.0.56 we've overhauled the QuarterlySummaryDashboard to make that journey transparent, guided, and stress-free.

The Problem We Solved

The previous dashboard displayed four quarter cards side-by-side, each with a Compute or Recompute button. There was no Submit button visible on the cards at all. Users had no way to tell:

  • Whether their data was ready for submission.
  • Why a Submit button wasn't appearing.
  • How close they were to an HMRC obligation deadline.

This left landlords uncertain and anxious about one of their most important compliance obligations.

What's New

1. Submission Readiness Checklist

Every quarter card now shows a concise checklist of the three things HMRC requires before a return can be submitted:

#CheckMeaning
1All transactions categorisedEvery imported transaction from AgentOS has been assigned an income or expense category
2HMRC connectedYour MTD credentials and National Insurance Number have been verified and an active HMRC session exists
3Quarter computedThe Compute step has been run and figures are up to date

Each item shows a clear ✓ (complete) or ✗ (incomplete) state so you know exactly where you stand.

2. Submit to HMRC Button

A Submit to HMRC button now appears directly on each quarter card — it is no longer hidden or absent.

  • When all three checklist items are green, the button is active and clicking it initiates the MTD submission flow.
  • When one or more items are incomplete, the button is disabled and shows a tooltip explaining the specific prerequisite that must be resolved first.

This replaces the previous experience where users had no submission action available from the dashboard at all.

3. Due-Date Countdown Banner

When an HMRC obligation deadline is 30 days or fewer away, a coloured banner appears at the top of the relevant quarter card:

🟡 23 days until Q2 due

The banner colour scales with urgency so that approaching deadlines are impossible to miss. No more manually tracking HMRC quarterly obligation windows.

How It All Works Together

  1. Open the Quarterly Summary Dashboard. You see all four quarter cards.
  2. Check the readiness checklist on the card for the current obligation period.
  3. Resolve any incomplete items — categorise outstanding transactions, reconnect HMRC if needed, or run Compute.
  4. Click Submit to HMRC once all three checks are satisfied.
  5. Monitor the countdown banner to stay ahead of the obligation deadline.

Related Prerequisites

  • AgentOS integration must be configured so transactions can be imported and categorised. See the AgentOS Integration guide.
  • Your National Insurance Number and HMRC MTD credentials must be stored in the application for the HMRC connection check to pass.
  • The Compute step must be run (or re-run after any transaction changes) before submission is allowed.
