User Menu: Dropdown Profile Menu

User Menu: Dropdown Profile Menu

The user menu in the application header has been redesigned from a flat strip of controls into a standard dropdown profile menu, consistent with the pattern used by tools like GitHub, Linear, and Vercel.

Opening the menu

Click your avatar in the top-right corner of the header to open the dropdown. The avatar is always visible regardless of viewport width.

Menu contents

Identity header

The top of the dropdown displays your display name and email address for at-a-glance account confirmation.

Theme selector

Choose how the interface renders on your device:

  • Light — always use the light theme
  • Dark — always use the dark theme
  • System — follow your operating system's appearance setting

The selected option is labelled explicitly so your current preference is always visible.

Sign Out

The Sign Out option sits below a visual divider at the bottom of the menu. A confirmation step is shown before you are signed out, preventing accidental session termination.

Behaviour at narrow viewports

At narrow screen widths the avatar remains visible and clickable. The dropdown provides full access to all options regardless of screen size — no functionality is hidden or truncated on mobile.

Why this changed

The previous design permanently exposed the Sign Out action without a confirmation step, squeezed the theme toggle next to it without a label, and provided no route to Profile or Organisation Settings from the header. The dropdown reclaims horizontal header space and groups related actions in a predictable, discoverable location.
