Check-Out Report Builder: Comparison Mode
Check-Out Report Builder: Comparison Mode
Available from: v0.1.130
Comparison Mode lets agents view check-in and check-out condition data side by side for every inventory item, directly inside the check-out report builder. This replaces the need to manually cross-reference two separate reports and produces clearer, more defensible evidence for adjudicators.
Enabling Comparison Mode
- Open a check-out report in the Report Builder.
- Locate the Comparison Mode toggle in the report builder header.
- Click the toggle to switch all inventory item cards to split-panel view.
- Click the toggle again to return to the standard single-panel layout.
The toggle state is per-session and does not affect the saved report.
The Split-Panel View
When Comparison Mode is active, each inventory item card is divided into two panels:
| Panel | Content |
|---|---|
| Left — Check-In | Condition rating and photos from the linked check-in report |
| Right — Check-Out | Current condition rating and photos entered during check-out |
Both panels display the full condition rating label (e.g. Good, Fair, Poor) alongside all associated photos.
Requirements
- The check-out report must be linked to a check-in report. If no check-in report is linked, the left panel will indicate that no prior condition data is available.
- Check-in data is read-only within the comparison view and cannot be edited.
Condition Degradation Indicators
Whenever the check-out condition rating is lower than the check-in condition rating, a coloured indicator is displayed on the item card. This highlights deterioration at a glance without requiring the agent to manually interpret the two ratings.
Example: A condition change from Good at check-in to Poor at check-out renders a visual indicator directly on the card, labelled Good → Poor.
Items where the condition is unchanged, or has improved, do not display an indicator.
Upcoming: Export Comparison (Phase 2)
A follow-on release will add an Export comparison action to generate a side-by-side PDF of the check-in vs. check-out evidence. This will use the existing document generation infrastructure and produce a single file suitable for submission to a deposit scheme or adjudicator.
Use Cases
- Preparing a deposit deduction claim — confirm condition changes before finalising the report.
- Pre-dispute evidence review — identify which items have degraded and ensure photos cover each one.
- Agent quality checks — supervisors can review completed check-outs against check-in baselines before sending reports to tenants.
