WOD Timer — AMRAP, EMOM, For-Time, Tabata & Custom

WOD Timer

The WOD Timer is a built-in interval timer that supports all major functional fitness formats. It runs entirely inside the platform, keeps the screen on during your session, fires audio cues at every interval, and hands off session data to the logging form the moment your timer ends.

Supported Timer Formats

AMRAP (As Many Rounds/Reps As Possible)

Set a total duration. The timer counts down while you log completed rounds and reps. Round data is recorded in real time and passed to the logging form on completion.

EMOM (Every Minute On the Minute)

Define a work task per minute. The timer automatically advances at each 60-second boundary with an audio cue, keeping you honest on transitions.

For-Time

Race against the clock. Choose count-up (unlimited) or set a time cap for count-down mode. The timer stops when you tap Done or the cap is reached.

Tabata

Preconfigured 20-second work / 10-second rest intervals. Set the total number of rounds before you start. Audio cues fire on every work/rest transition.

Custom

Build any sequence of work and rest intervals. Useful for mixed-modal programming, longer aerobic pieces with structured rest, or any format that doesn't fit the presets above.

Features

Audio Cues

The timer plays countdown beeps in the final seconds of each interval and a distinct tone when the interval changes. This lets you keep your eyes on the barbell rather than the screen.

Audio cues respect your device's volume settings. Make sure your device is not on silent if you rely on audio feedback.

Screen-Wake Lock

Once a timer is running the platform requests a screen-wake lock, preventing the display from sleeping mid-session. The lock is released automatically when the timer ends or is cancelled.

Round Tracking

For AMRAP and Custom formats, tap the + button during the session to log completed rounds. The running round count is displayed prominently in the timer view.

Wearable Integration

Apple Watch

With the companion app installed, use your Apple Watch to start, pause, and stop any active timer without touching your phone.

Garmin

Garmin device integration provides the same remote start/stop control via the Garmin Connect IQ app.

Remote control requires the respective companion app to be paired and connected before starting a session.

Auto-Populate Logging Form

When a timer session ends — whether by natural completion or manual stop — the platform automatically opens the session logging form with the following fields pre-filled:

FieldSource
Elapsed timeTotal timer duration at stop
Rounds completedRound count from in-session tracking

You can review and edit all fields before submitting the log.

How to Start a Timer

  1. Open the WOD or Today's Session view.
  2. Tap the Timer icon in the session header.
  3. Select a format: AMRAP, EMOM, For-Time, Tabata, or Custom.
  4. Configure the duration, rounds, or interval sequence for your chosen format.
  5. Tap Start. Audio cues and screen-wake lock activate immediately.
  6. On completion, review the pre-filled logging form and submit your score.

Notes & Limitations

  • Screen-wake lock availability depends on browser and OS support. On unsupported environments the timer still functions but the screen may sleep normally.
  • Wearable remote control requires Bluetooth to be enabled on the host device.
  • Custom interval sequences are not saved as reusable templates in this release.
